Wig Guide: Choosing & Installing Your First Wig
New to wigs? This guide covers the three decisions that matter most — lace type, cap size and install method — so your first unit looks natural from day one.
1. Pick your lace
| Lace type | Parting space | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Headband wig | None | Fastest, beginner-friendly, no lace to customise |
| U part / V part | Your own leave-out | Blending with your natural hair |
| 4x4 / 5x5 closure | Middle and slight side part | Easy everyday wear |
| 13x4 lace front | Ear to ear, deep side part | Natural hairline, versatile parting |
| 13x6 lace front | Deeper parting space | More styling freedom |
| Full lace | Anywhere | High ponytails and updos |
2. Check your cap size
Measure around your head from the front hairline, above the ears, to the nape and back. Most wigs are made for an average 22–22.5 inch head, and many have adjustable straps — check each product page. See our size guide.
3. A simple glueless install
- Braid or slick your hair flat and put on a wig cap.
- Place the wig slightly in front of your hairline, then adjust the straps for a snug fit.
- Trim the lace along your hairline with small scissors.
- Lay the lace with an elastic band for 10–15 minutes.
- Style the edges and part, and you're done.
